Joe's Background and Education
Joe Vumbacco came from a blue collar background. He worked in factories and did roofing construction. In 1967, he earned his B.A. from Bowdoin College and in 1970 his J.D. cum laude from Syracuse University College of Law. He also completed the Financial Program for Senior Executives at the Harvard Business School.
Joe Vumbacco has over forty years of experience meeting life and business challenges. He practiced law on Wall Street, was Senior Vice President of the F. & M. Schaefer Corporation (NYSE) in the tough and tumble world of beer and bread, was a member of the Board of Education of New Rochelle, New York for 4 years, became Executive Vice President of The Turner Corporation (NYSE), the largest General Contractor in the U.S.
In May of 2007, he retired from Health Management Associates, Inc. (NYSE) but not from Work, as its Chief Executive Officer, President, Vice Chairman and member of the Board of Directors. HMA was a $4 billion plus revenue operation with over sixty hospitals in the southeast and southwest with 35,000 employees and 10,000 physicians on its medical staffs. Under Joe Vumbacco's leadership, they achieved numerous awards and distinctions, including Fortunes "Most Admired Companies in the U.S."
Mr. Vumbacco was recently named as an independent Director of the Board of National Healing Corporation and serves on the Board of Advisors of Syracuse University Law School as well as the Foundation Board of Directors of Florida Gulf Coast University. Through his consulting organization, Mr. Vumbacco provides services and advice to clients as well as delivers motivational seminars and presentations.
